This tutorial is going to show you how exactly to install TWRP, SuperSU and gain root on Redmi Note 3 (MTK), which is the most awesome and budget-friendly Android phone. This rooting mechanism is intended for advanced user only who wants to unlock all of the awesomeness of Redmi Note 3 by gaining truly root access. For your information for you who didn’t know it yet, the Redmi Note 3 comes with MIUI 7 running on top of it and Xiaomi itself has included builtin root access. I mean you can actually granting root access to any root-only apps you want by following my previous guide.

The phone is featured with Micro-SIM Dual stand-by, Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 chipset, Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, PowerVR G6200 GPU, Android OS v5.0.2 (Lollipop) with MIUI 7 on top, 5.5 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors with 72.4% screen-to-body ratio, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, and Li-Po 4000 mAh battery. It has two variants: 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM. This trick can be done on both phone.

Before we proceed to the mechanism, it is better for you to firstly make backup of your data including apps, messages, contacts, etc for just in case. I believe no personal data will be lost but better safe than sorry. Also, make sure your phone has at least 75% battery power remaining.
Required : Unlocked Bootloader
Preliminary steps
Step 1 – Download Universal ADB USB Drivers and install it on your computer.
Step 2 – Enable USB Debugging mode on your phone via Developer Options. Of course you have to firstly activate Developer Options in your Settings page. To do that, simply go toSettings >> About Phone >> then tap on the MIUI version around 7 – 10 times. Now you can go back to main Settings page and you should see Developer Options appear there.

Step 1 – Download Minimal Fastboot Files package into your computer and extract its content using your favorite underachiever tool like WinRAR or 7Zip. Make sure you remember the location of the files in your computer or you can also extract it to root Drive like Drive D: or E: – for easy-accessing.
Step 2 – Download TWRP Recovery v2.8.7 for Redmi Note 3 into your computer as well. Again, you need to extract the .zip file so you’ll have an image file ended in .img format.
Step 3 – Now move the TWRP .img file to the same folder as the Minimal Fastboot Files you’ve extracted previously. Also make sure all Drivers are installed properly.
Step 4 – Now connect your phone to the computer using its USB cable.
Step 5 – Open up that Minimal Fastboot Files folder in Windows Explorer then hold Shift key on keyboard while right-clicking your mouse then choose Open command window from here.
Step 6 – The Command Prompt window will appear. Now type adb devices on it and you should see similar thing to this.
Do note that if you see the name of your device indicating that ADB Drivers is installed properly and your phone is detected. Otherwise you may need to uninstall that one and try other :
Step 7 – Next, still in command prompt, type this command and hit enter to execute it: adb reboot bootloader
Step 8 – Your phone will now reboot and enter bootloader. See your phone to make sure it.
Step 9 – Once your phone is in its bootloader, you can start installing TWRP Custom Recovery on it by executing this command via your computer : fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Step 10 – So now you have TWRP Recovery installed and next thing to do is to root. Now you have to firstly download Update SuperSU package into your computer. This tutorial worked with SuperSU v2.46 but you can also choose to use SuperSU v2.65 as well.
You do not need to extract the zip file but simply copy it to the root location of your phone’s internal storage (not inside any folder).
Step 11 – Now on your phone, once the SuperSU .zip file has been copied, go to Settings > Updater > Menu (the three dots in top right corner). Finally choose Reboot to Recovery Mode.
Step 12 – Now the TWRP interface will open. You can then choose / tap on Install from there.
Step 13 – Locate the SuperSU .zip file you’ve copied earlier and do the Swipe to install it.
Step 14 – Sit tight and wait till the flashing process finished. Your phone may reboot and probably it take longer than usual but don’t worry it’s normal.
Step 15 – Voila, your Redmi Note 3 is now rooted. You can confirm it by installing Root Checker app from the Play Store. Enjoy.

HOW TO UNROOT
Unrooting Redmi Note 3 is a piece of cake. Simply launch the SuperSU app on your phone, go to Settings then choose Unroot / Full Unroot. That’s it.
